Winnipeg Home Renovations

2000's Bungalow

This bungalow with walkout basement was custom built in 2003. Improved functionality was needed - the front foyer was cramped, and the master bedroom and ensuite too small and poorly laid out. Walk-in closet lacked effective organization. As well, all windows facing the lake at the rear of the home were too small to appreciate the view. To achieve the desired changes, a two storey addition was created to provide needed floor space while extensive modifications of the floor plan resulted in a more functional layout. Interior design was by Lynn Fenwick and Co., architectural drawings by Chris Leverance of Part 9 Design, windows and doors by Duxton Windows & Doors, millwork by Legacy Originals, lighting by SuperLite and solid surfaces by Cararra Tile.

Eliminating an adjacent computer room allowed for the front foyer to be enlarged which opened up into a new piano room featuring elaborate millwork and lighting. Changes to the foyer include custom oversized front door and sidelights with matching transom, new sconces and indirect LED lighting, and new porcelain flooring that extends through much of the renovated main floor.

New floor to ceiling windows were installed throughout the renovated areas, resulting in a panoramic view of the lake as well as a window into the new addition.

An existing aquarium was replaced with a larger site-built unit that effectively separates the front entrance from the dining room. The aquarium was cleverly designed to open up for cleaning and maintenance.   2000's Bungalow

A new custom floor to ceiling double sided wine cooler was site built between the dining room and kitchen. Kitchen modifications included a new glass and stainless eating counter and 4 panel sliding doors.

A new feature power room was created adjoining the front foyer where previously a wall separated the area from the master bedroom closet. This new powder room showcases switchable glass technology that is adtivated (becomes opaque) when the room is in use.

Other details include floor-to-ceiling mirror with custom ornate carved frame, millwork, glass-tiled wall and illuminated art glass pedestal sink.

The original walk-in closet was too small for effective organization.  More closet space was achieved through demolition of a bedroom and powder room.  Here a new dressing room and walk-through closet with extensive custom millwork was created.

2000's Bungalow   On the main floor, the addition space became an enlarged master bedroom and ensuite.  Floor-to-ceiling windows in the addition illuminated the new free standing tub with custom oval bulkhead and new peninsula fireplace.  New sinks and open concept shower were installed accompanied by custom millwork.

2000's Bungalow   In the lower level, the existing family room was modified with a horizontal ribbon fireplace with glass surround. New millwork and feature lighting over the pool table were added.

The lower level addition became the new office space featuring an expanse of windows surrounding a floating fireplace. As well, custom cherry cabinetry and fixed and moveable glass/millwork walls enclose the new office space.   2000's Bungalow

2000's Bungalow   A particular challenging aspect of this renovation was to redesign an existing band/music room which was too small and could not suppress loud music. The space was enlarged by gutting the existing band room and an adjoining bedroom. Considerable research lead to the use of the latest sound controlling technology, creating a THX-rated soundproof band room with its own HVAC systems. Unique gothic style lighting, flooring, millwork, tinted mirrors and wall coverings complete the effect.
