Winnipeg Home Renovations

|
|
1980s Modern Home
The owners were attracted to the exterior and basic layout of this home but knew that the interior needed to be brought up to date. Sakiyama Construction together with Michelle Weibe (W Designs) developed a plan that modernized the entire interior and elevated the level of finishes to a high standard. The changes started with the new front entrance door with art glass inserts (left).
|

The original décor consisted of faux colonial trim work as shown in front foyer above. The new design brings a modern look to this staircase. Note the cherry wood pillars with stainless steel trims. Plain ceramic tile flooring at the entrance was replaced with a natural slate. The cherry wood/slate theme is echoed in other aspects of the renovation.

Standard cabinetry in the kitchen was removed and replaced by custom-made cabinets by Legacy Originals. The island layout and lighting was revised to be both functional and decorative.

The pantry closet (above) was replaced by full height cabinetry and appliance locations were revised. New granite countertops and glass backsplashes with stainless steel trims were installed. The peninsula was enlarged to provide an informal eating counter. |

Existing sunken family room with wood burning fireplace and dated built-ins (above) has been replaced with a new relocated gas burning fireplace accented by slate and cherry millwork. Note bulkhead detail and built-in entertainment Unit (photos at left).
New prefinished maple hardwood replaced old carpet. Ill-fitting French doors with transom have been updated with new units featuring contemporary glass. |

As a busy professional needs a functional place to work, Sakiyama Construction totally redeveloped the home office. Upgrades included new floor to ceiling bookshelves and matching furniture as well as new lighting, flooring and décor. |

This small main floor powder room was given a dramatic makeover with a floating vanity, granite countertop, slate floor with co-ordinated backsplash and unique cherry bulkhead.
|

The master bedroom ensuite looked dated with egg-crate lighting and carpeted floors. New millwork with granite counters and clean contemporary lines are accented by heated ceramic tile flooring. Matching tile was utilized in new shower and tub surrounds.

Even a back staircase deserves special treatment. Plain drywall was accentuated with glass block inserts and cherry hardwood capping. Notice the hardwood flooring set at a diagonal to add interest.

Lower level was completely gutted, allowing Sakiyama Construction to start from scratch. T bar ceiling with fluorescent lighting was replaced by drywall and pot lighting. A new home entertainment centre is flanked by a new gas fireplace surrounded with 12 x 24 inch ceramic tiles. |
Original wet bar shown above was dramatically improved by new custom millwork bar and two-level granite countertop. Drywall bulkheads, ceramic backsplash and accent lighting adds to the effect. New ceramic tile flooring surrounds the bar area.

Wine racks in a back storage area were transformed by Sakiyama Construction and Legacy Originals (cabinets) into a temperature controlled wine room with plenty of extra storage space.

The new exercise room looks inviting. Ceiling bulkheads, new pot lighting, near full wall mirror, and specialized flooring marks a tremendous departure from the old gym area.
