Additions
1930s Cottage Restyle

|
The owners of this modest 1.5 storey home outgrew the 1,000 sq ft floor plan but loved the neighbourhood. The answer to their predicament was to redesign their home. In 1990, Sakiyama Construction accomplished this by replacing the existing half storey with a full second storey plus a 2 storey side addition. The new design featured 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and walk-in closets. A balcony deck was situated above a screened room with a hot tub. Also added was a cantilever on the front of the home with a new bay window. Designed by architect Jack James, the renovation totally transformed the appearance of this home. |

Existing living room and dining room were modified with oak millwork as well as new hardwood flooring and crown moulding. New wallpaper and paint completed the decor. A new entrance in the dining room allowed access to the screened hot tub room.

The second storey addition is accessed by a new stairway complete with custom oak railings. The hallway to the bedrooms is accentuated by a graceful curve.

A new master bedroom and adjoining walk-in closet were created in the second floor addition. Ensuite was located behind the glass block wall seen above and to the right. French doors (first and second photos) lead onto a balcony deck.

Phase two of Sakiyama Construction's renovation of this home was the development of a basement family room. Features included a masonry fireplace, new lighting and flooring, and extensive millwork. |
